About

DOONT Studio designed the interiors of Gino, a 370 m² house in Los Lagos, Nordelta, completed in 2021 with OON Architecture. Kitchen, dining and living share one room on the ground floor, and that room continues outdoors into a gallery running the full width of the lot.

MORE

A single six-meter island is the only thing that divides the ground floor. It puts the kitchen on one side and the table and the seating on the other, and because it is a counter and not a wall, the three uses stay in one room. The kitchen backs onto the central courtyard through glass, so it keeps the view the other two have.

The gallery ends in a grill faced in stone, with a black granite bar and a table long enough for the whole house. Its edge carries no column, so the line from the table to the garden and the pool is unbroken.

At the front, the round window of the study is deep enough to sit in, and is used that way. Along the opposite side of the house the wall is glass, so the stair climbs against the garden.

Kiri lines the ceilings of the living areas and the gallery. The floors are travertine, the cabinetry and the joinery are petiribí, and the concrete of the structure stays visible inside. Nothing is painted and nothing is clad: the color and the texture come from the materials themselves.

Every room on this floor looks into the courtyard, the powder room included. The planting inside it grew toward the sun and now reaches the upper floor, so the view from one room into another passes through it.
